Two Gold Medals for Cuba in the Youth Olympic Games
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 23 (acn) Norge Sotomayor and Radamé Fabar won
gold medals for Cuba, in 400 meters hurdles and triple jump,
respectively, during the ninth day of competition in the First
Youth Olympic Games underway in Singapore.

Sotomayor won the title after
stopping the clocks at 50. 69 seconds, to overtake Indian
Durgesh Kumar (50.81) and Kenyan William Mutunga (51.23), who
won silver and bronze, in that order.
Meanwhile, Fabar found his strengths in his last attempt to
claim the gold in triple jump with a 16.37 meter leap, a
personal best.
He was followed by Chinese Haitao Fu (16.14) and the Bulgarian
Georgi Tsonov (15.80), in that order, according to the Web site
of the event.
Other Cuban competitors today included Daniel Cruz in the hammer
throwing
event, where he finished seventh with a 62.32 meter shot in an
event dominated by Chinese Binbin Liu, who won with a
career-high 73.99 meters.
Cyprus Alexandros Porsanidis (70.30) and Hungarian Balazs Toreky
(70.13), got the silver and bronze medals respectively.
These were the first two gold medals for Cuban in the athletics
event at the Singapore Games since so far the Cuban aythletes
had only won a silver, javelin thrower Lismania Muñoz.
The medals won today by Sotomayor and Fabares are the fourth and
fifth gold medals of the Cuban delegation.
Previously the Cyv¡ban that had climbed to the top of the podium
were gymnast Ernesto Vila, the pentathlete Leidy Laura Moya and
canoeist Osvaldo Sacerio.
