In Chile, representatives from the National Association of Rural
and Indigenous Women, delivered letters to the US embassy in
favor of The Five, addressed to First Lady Michele Obama and to
Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the Prensa Latina news
agency reports.
The Chilean organizations requested the participation of Nancy
Pelosi, president of the US House of Representatives, to put an
end to the imprisonment of these patriots, the victims of a
biased trial held in Miami, where they were condemned to
excessive sentences.
Gerardo, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino y
Fernando Gonzalez were the object of distorted accusations for
warning their country about terrorist actions promoted by
Florida-based organizations.
A statement issued in Peru by the Committee in Solidarity with
The Five, denounced that the imprisonment of Gerardo in the hole
is a human rights violation and that, in spite of his transfer
from the hole to his regular cell, this was only a partial
victory.
In Brazil, it was asserted that the release of Gerardo from the
hole is the fruit of the pressure of his lawyers and of the
national and international movements for the freeing of the five
heroes.
Vermelho, the Web site of the Brazilian Communist Party, points
out that, in spite of being ill and of not having committed any
act to justify that measure, Gerardo had been in the punishment
cell since July 21.
