During a meeting between members of the regional
legislative organ and the International Committee for the
Freedom of the Cuban Five, Deputy Emil Guevara, Coordinator for
the Committee of the Cuba-Venezuela National Movement of
Solidarity, also denounced the attempts of filling Gerardo
Hernandez with fear.
Gerardo, one of the Cubans in prison, recently suffered 13 days
of isolation in a
punishment cell (the hole) in a moment in which his lawyer was
processing a Habeas Corpus appeal, and was returned to his
regular cell after the protests made by Cuba and thanks to
international solidarity.
Guevara also stated that Parlatino will soon issue a
proclamation to ratify its
condemnation to the terrorism Cuba has been subjected to for
decades on the part of violent groups operating with impunity
from US territory.
The document will also demand that international terrorists,
like Luis Posada Carriles, living freely in Florida, are tried.
Vidal Cisneros, who heads Parlatino’s Commission for Culture,
Education and Technology, asserted that the United States
stimulates terrorism with its policy, and championed Cuba’s
right to defend itself.
Gerardo, along with his companions Ramon Labañino, Antonio
Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, were monitoring
the activities of terrorist organizations operating against the
Caribbean island from US territory, in order to warn the Cuban
government about violent actions against their homeland.
For her part, Graciela Ramirez, Coordinator of the International
Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, demanded US
President Barack Obama to honor his Nobel Peace Prize and add
his signature to those of another ten personalities who have
received that award and have expressed their solidarity with the
five Cuban heroes.
Likewise, she also denounced the difficult conditions of
imprisonment suffered by the Cuban patriots and demanded a major
boost of international solidarity until the release of The Five
is achieved.
