Aily Labaņino spoke with the Nicaraguan president
about the rigorous conditions of imprisonment to which her
father, Ramon Labaņino, has been submitted in the United States
and said she appreciates the campaigns for the release of her
father and his other four compatriots and the demonstrations of
support.
Aily Labaņino passed a greeting message to Ortega from Ramon
Labaņino on the 31st anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution
saying that revolutions like the Sandinista help him and his
compatriots stay firm in their principles.
Ortega reportedly met with representatives of youth and student
organizations who participate in activities for the 31st
anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.
Prensa Latina reported that the Nicaraguan leader encouraged
youths from 12 Latin American and Caribbean nations attending
the event to intensify campaigns for the release of Gerardo
Hernandez, Ramon Labaņino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez
and Rene Gonzalez when they return to their home countries.
In 1998, the Cuban Five were arrested in Florida, where they had
penetrated Miami-based terrorist groups that have been
organizing sabotages and criminal attempts against the Cuban
people since 1959 causing thousands of victims and substantial
losses to the economy of the island.
