The vice president of the
Cuban Athletics Federation, Jesus Molina, said the squad had a good
preparation and they are ready to put Cuba on the top spot of the
medal standings.
The team is led by world record holder and reigning Olympic champion
Dayron Robles (men’s Sprint Hurdles) and two-time world champions
Yargelis avigne (women’s Triple Jump) and Yipsi Moreno (women’s
Hammer Throw) as well as Olympic silver medalist Yarelis Barrios
(women’s Discus Throw) and world runner-up Guillermo Martinez (men’s
Javelin Throw).
Others in the list are 2010 world indoor silver medalist William
Collazo (men’s 400 meters), two-time world runner-up Yoandry
Betanzos (men’s Triple Jump) and 2008 world indoor bronze medalist
Anay Tejeda (women’s Sprint Hurdles).
The team also includes
young talents that will help Cuba regain the top spot of the
competition lost during the previous Iberian-American competition
held in Chile.
Some of the Cuban athletes are already in Europe and they have
participated in several meetings in France, the Czech Republic and
Holland, among other countries.
