In a televised statement, Llort said she tries to keep her son and his friends unjustly imprisoned: Ramón Labañino, René González, Antonio Guerrero and Gerardo Hernandez informed of developments in Cuba.

Magali Llort, a Cuban Parliament deputy, said she will try to contact her son later in the day to let him know about the election and how people have responded. “We have an election day which we celebrate with great success.”

The hero's mother explained the significance of massive vote in the election of delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power, to which more than eight million citizens are called and whose participation is an endorsement to the Revolution.

She highlighted the social achievements in Cuba in the areas of health and education, among others, and recalled that before the 1959Revolution a person who was poor, as her ailing father, had no chance of receiving treatment.

Today the Cuban doctors not only defend the lives of our citizens, but they are in other countries helping their people, she added.

On the upcoming celebration of May Day, she said it was another time when the pain escalates for the absence of her son Fernando, because “we always had as a rule in the family to go together to the demonstrations in the Revolution Square.”

The Cuban Five, as they are known internationally, are suffering cruel imprisonment since 1998 in the United States, where they were monitoring the actions of extremist anti-Cuba groups that for years have planned and executed terrorist actions against Cuba and its people.
