In the framework of the III congress of this medical
speciality to open on Wednesday in Havana, doctors will discuss the
strategies implemented by the Ministry that led to this result
during this period.
Diabetic children throughout Cuba receive high quality specialized
medication and treatment, which include the supplying of insulin and
ultra-fast effect analogues when required, said Carvajal.
Some 61 specialists scattered throughout Cuba work on early
diagnosis of congenital hyperthyroidism, a disease that hinders
normal growth and causes other illness to children.
When they are born, a blood sample is taken from the Achilles’ heel,
a common practice in Cuban hospitals, to detect the disease.
Other related diseases that could cause infant deaths have early
diagnosis in Cuba thanks to the Children Endocrinology services and
the 39 labs equipped with Ultra micro analytical systems, said
Carvajal.
