OLADE Praises Cuba’s
Use of Aeolian Energy
HAVANA, Cuba,
Apr 1 (acn) Carlos Arturo Flórez, executive secretary of the Latin
American
Energy Organization (OLADE), expressed admiration for the results of
the use of wind power in
Cuba, a project which is an example to many countries in the region.

Flores, while addressing the XII International Energy
Forum underway in the Mexican city of Cancun, said that the island
gives great importance to energy efficiency, according to media
reports.
He explained that the Cubans have experience in using the wind
generated by hurricanes, by using folding poles they lower after the
40 critical minutes elapse.
Once you pass this difficult time, specialists install them again
and take advantage of the winds associated with the weather
phenomenon, he said.
He added that in the Caribbean there is great potential to generate
wind power, by the proximity of two oceans and the presence of solar
radiation between 12 and 14 hours a day.
Given the increase in fossil fuel prices and the possibility of
depletion in the near future is necessary to employ the use of
renewable and alternative energies.
The meeting was attended by representatives of more than 100
countries, including executives of major oil companies, who agreed
to promote joint actions to reduce the volatility of oil prices.
Oil prices have stabilized in recent months between 70 to 80 dollars
per barrel after a difficult 2008, when it went during the summer up
to 147dollars, to later drop in the winter to 33.
