During a meeting at the University of Santa Cruz to
mark the half a million eye surgeries made so far, the head of state
underlined the sacrifice of Cuban doctors, who left their families
on the island to go there and offer their services.
Morales also made reference to the example of
Revolution leader Fidel Castro, the creator of Operation Miracle,
the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
Men like Fidel think about mankind, on the life of
all and not of specific groups; while some people want everything
for them, we want everything for all the people, underlined the
leader.
He affirmed that Cuba is a breeding ground for
revolution in Latin America and the world, and that fortunately
there’s a Hugo Chavez, a Rafael Correa and a Daniel Ortega.
Cuba’s ambassador to that country, Rafael Dausa,
thanked the Bolivian president and people for their confidence in
Cuban doctors.
For her part, Maria Isabel Martinez, coordinator of
the medical brigade, said that thanks to Operation Miracle, 414,245
Bolivians, 35,874 Brazilians, 28,870 Argentineans, 19,582 Peruvians
and 312 Paraguayans have been operated on.
She also highlighted that Cuban doctors carried out
over 35 million consultations and saved the lives of 31,985
Bolivians, the EFE news agency reports.
