A total of 13,187 show intellectual
disabilities and 34,001 other types of limitations, while 1,514
cases have been described as critical, 551 of which have been
solved, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
The studies have already been made in
the departments of Masaya, Matagalpa and Chinandega and are now
being carried out in Managua, to then continue to Leon.
Coordinated by Miladys Orraca,
director on the island of the Provincial Center of Genetics of
western Pinar del Rio province, the brigade is composed of 25
Nicaraguan doctors and 65 Cuban professionals from various
specialties.
Every day, with the support of several
hundreds of voluntary workers, the members of this brigade visit
each and every house in the neighborhoods to identify people with
disabilities.
Their purpose is to collect the
information necessary to allow the Sandinista government to devise
plans and programs to treat this vulnerable sector of the Nicaraguan
population.
