A doctor by profession like her father, Aleida
Guevara told the Prensa Latina news agency over the telephone that
it was an honor to attend the inauguration of the health center, at
the invitation of prefect Anderson Fontes, from the Workers’ Party.
Che’s daughter, in Brazil for a week now, commented
that on Thursday she participated in the massive graduation of
technicians in several specialities from various social
organizations in the South American country, held at the Federal
University of Bahia, where she took part in an exchange on Cuban
reality and the ideas and the legacy of the Heroic Guerrilla, as
well as in another meeting at the Ernesto Che Guevara Cultural
Center located in Fortaleza, in the state of Ceara.
In addition, in that same city, Aleida participated
in the creation of the Ceara’s
Parliamentary Front for Friendship with Cuba and for the release of
the five Cubans unfairly incarcerated in the United States for over
11 years now for fighting terrorism.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez,
Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez were condemned in Miami in 2001
to sentences ranging from 15 years to two life imprisonments, for
monitoring the criminal activities of Florida-based anti-Cuban
organizations.
