In a press conference, Engineer Jorge Luis Rodriguez, President of the event’s Organizing Committee, said that they have already contracted with the Pavilion the 3, 335 square meters that will be used for the exhibition and commercialization of materials, equipment, technologies and services linked to construction, hydraulic resources and housing.

As part of the event, the 8th Scientific and Technical Conference on Construction, the 1st Workshop on Accessibility in Buildings and City Planning, the 4th Symposium of Quality in Constructions and the 5th Meeting on Housing, all of them international, will be held at this city’s Convention Center.

The Cuban engineer commented that among nations with stands at Pabexpo will be Spain, Canada, Venezuela and Italy –the most represented-, as well as Colombia, Panama, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, China, the Dominican Republic, France, Portugal, Russia, the British Virgin Islands, Chile and Cuba.

Rodriguez, who is also the island’s Deputy Construction Minister, announced that firms from Andorra and the Dutch Antilles will participate in the event for the first time, and recalled that this international event had its first edition in Havana in 1998, being the last that of 2007. He added that from now on FECONS will be held every two years.

He underlined the country’s interest in doing business with several nations, in areas like construction materials, technology and hydraulic resources, a field in which Cuba has stopped importing pipes and can now export them.

With respect to the housing program, Rodriguez pointed out that the serious damages caused by hurricanes in 2008 to over 600,000 buildings forced authorities to look for local technical solutions, especially for roofing, in order to make them resistant to hurricanes.
