During a meeting with the Cuban Ambassador to
Ecuador, Benigno Perez, three youngsters from the “Cultura Rebelde”
social movement informed him on their decision to join with this
ascent the activities for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon
Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and René González.
This trio will take their solidarity flag to the Andean summit of
Cayambe, 5 700 meters above sea level during the first week of
April, coinciding with the anniversaries of the founding of Cuban
Youth Communist League (April 4th).
Also on April 17th they will climb snowcapped Chimborazo, 6 310
meters high, to remembered the anniversary of Bay of Pigs, which
marks the first major military defeat of the U.S. imperialism in
America.
In the first stage of the two actions will be accompanied by
journalists and advocates of the Five in Ecuador, according to the
Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry’s website.
This initiative continues the one made by three young Argentine, who
ascended last January the Aconcagua , the highest peak in the
Americas, thence to demand the freedom of the five Cuban Heroes.
The example was taken up in Cuba by the “From the Aconcagua to the
Turquino Peak” project, who returned from its mission after planting
on the highest peak of the island a banner with the same demand.
