Present in the tribute were the President of the Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP), Juan Carlos Camaño; the President of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), Tubal Paez; and the President of the Association of Journalists of Guatemala, Carlos Enrique Wer.

The homage was carried out by winners of the 2009 annual Juan Gualberto Gomez Journalism Prize, representatives of provincial delegations of national media outlets, members of the UPEC president’s office and journalism students.

On behalf of the Cuban people, the group of media professionals laid a floral wreath before the monument dedicated to the Cuban hero.

On the occasion, three journalists of Santiago de Cuba received the Felix Elmuza Distinction for their lifetime’s work.
