Cuban Hero Assures He
Will Climb the Turquino Peak
Las Tunas, March
15 (acn) In a telephone conversation with his daughters Aili and
Laura, the
Cuban antiterrorist Ramon Labanino assured them that upon their
return, the Cuban Five will
climb the Turquino Peak, just as the two girls did as part of the
“From Aconcagua to the
Turquino Peak” project.

The
daughters of the Hero kept the dialogue while returning from the
highest point in Cuba, from where they demanded the release of their
father and the other 4 heroes, following a similar gesture of three
young Argentineans in the Andean mountain, the highest in America.
During the phone conversation Labañino greeted the group made up of
other relatives of the Cuban antiterrorists, students from the
Institute of International Relations and journalists from our
Agency.
“I’ll go with you to the Turquino, and from today I call upon you to
accompany me when we all return,” said a confident Ramon, with
strong voice and confident that justice will overcome the injustice
and the rationality will prevail over the infamy.
The surprise and excitement of the call, along with the serious
commitment of the invitation, served as encouragement for the group
to recover from the fatigue accumulated in the unusual hours of
walking through the rugged slopes of the Sierra Maestra mountain
range.
The day before heavy rain stopped them in the middle of the
mountains in the area known as Altos del Naranjo, and almost at
midnight they could make it to the point of collection, to undertake
the journey home.
Before starting the journey that took them to the bust of José Martí,
on the roof of the Cuban archipelago, members of the Brigade walked
in the footsteps of Che Guevara in his area of operations of Buey
Arriba, Bueycito and San Pablo del Yao, as well as visiting the "Otilia"
rebel camp .
