The
historical date was recalled together with the 10th anniversary of
the Baragua Oath, a document approved on February 19 and that
reaffirmed the Cuban people’s determination to resist, struggle and
win.
In the spot declared a National Monument, a wreath was place on
behalf of the Cuban people at the obelisk built to pay tribute to
Antonio Maceo, who on March 15, 1878, expressed his conviction of
fighting without negotiating with the enemy.
During the political-cultural meeting to mark these two events, the
Santiago de Cuba delegates to the upcoming 9th Congress of the Young
Communists League and town residents ratified that today the new
generations continue to be in combat.
Fidel Gonzalez, provincial president of the University Students
Federation, underlined the patriotic ideals of Antonio Maceo while
underlining the dignity, revolutionary ideas, principles of
struggle, and intransigent spirit of Cubans who didn’t want peace
without independence -hence today’s struggle for new social changes
for the benefit of the population, with the continuous work in
production tasks and the objective of being more efficient in the
fulfilment of economic plans.
Lazaro Exposito, member of the Central Committee of the Cuban
Communist Party and first secretary in the province, highlighted
that the inspiration to face the difficult tasks we have to tackle
as part of our duty as revolutionaries lies in the example of
Baragua and Maceo.
In addition, he urged to increase agricultural yields and make good
use of every plot to plant food items and to save the energy,
material and financial resources available.
The meeting was presided over by Misael Enamorado, member of the
Politburo and of the Secretariat of the Cuban Communist Party’s
Central Committee.
