The
awarding ceremony took place at the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana
where the annual Juan Gualberto Gomez awards for 2009 were also
presented by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC).
“The
so-called ‘world’s best trade’ is as praiseworthy and transcendental
as any other intellectual work,” said Rodriguez, who is a permanent
professor at the School of Communication of the University of
Havana.
Meanwhile,
the Juan Gualberto Gomez awards in the categories of written press
and television were for Francisco Rodriguez Cruz, with the
Trabajadores newspaper, and Ismary Barcia, from Perlavision in
Cienfuegos province, respectively.
Others who received the award were Demetrio Villaurrutia (Radio
Rebelde), Roberto Figueredo Bello (Bohemia magazine) and Rafael
Hojas (Trabajadores).
Present in the ceremony were UPEC President Tubal Paez and Rolando
Alfonso Borges, head of the Ideological Department at the Central
Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party.
