More than
250 Iberian-American and European delegates are participating in the
event, which will run until Friday, to exchange their experiences
and ideas on the prevention of physical and psychic disabilities of
neurological origin.
Doctor Julio Zamarreño, president of the organizing committee Neuro
Rehabana, told ACN that the meeting brings together representatives
from Cuba, Spain, the United States, England, Uruguay, Panama and
Mexico, among other nations.
The event is aimed at promoting the creation of data banks, and
networks for communication and for the training of scientific groups
from different regions, underlined Zamarreño.
"Prevention of disabilities” is the slogan of the event, which is
attended by specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation,
neurologists, neurosurgeons, intensive care specialists,
orthopedists, urologists, nephrologists, pneumologists,
pediatricians, ophtalmologists, ENT specialists, geneticists,
psychiatrists and psychologists.
The prevention of traffic and industrial accidents and accidents in
sports performance and at home, natural and traditional medicine,
and disaster medicine, are also part of the event’s agenda.
The scientific program included 13 pre-congress courses (on Monday
and Tuesday) among them the 2nd International Workshop on Equestrian
Rehabilitation, held at the La Pradera International Rehabilitation
Center, where Cuba showed his achievements in equine therapy, which
began on the island in 2002.
Cuba has 16 equestrian rehabilitation units, in which equine therapy
is used with good results, showing the benefits horses can provide
to rehabilitate children with brain disabilities, autism, deafness
and blindness, and other physical and mental handicaps.
