The letter defends Adriana Perez’ and Olga
Salanueva’s right to visit their husbands Gerardo Hernandez and Rene
Gonzalez who are unfairly imprisoned in the United States, together
with Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez.
The message is addressed to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
and Secreatry of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, with a copy to
US ambassador Vilma Martinez, reported Prensa Latina.
The letter refers to the most recent denial to grant humanitarian
parole visa to Salanueva last December 8, which prevented her from
traveling to the US with the only purpose of visiting her husband,
who was condemned to 15 years in prison.
The signatories also mentioned coercive, violent and cruel actions
undertaken against Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez who have
committed no crime and who are only wishing to see their husbands.
The letter was signed by Nobel Laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel;
President of Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Estela de Carlotto; head
of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, Nora Cortiñas – Founding Line; and
President of the Consultative Council of the American Association of
Jurists, Beinusz Szmukler.
Likewise, it was backed by Stella Calloni, journalist and writer;
Graciela Rosenblum, head of the Argentinean League for Men’s Rights;
Fray Antonio Puigjane, Franciscan priest; and sociologist Atilio
Boron member of the Board of Directors of the UN International
Social Sciences Council, among others.
