Ricardo Alarcon Launches New Books on the Cuban Five
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 15 (acn) The President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon launched on Sunday two new books on the case of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

The launch of the books took place during the third day of the International Book Fair Cuba 2010 that is underway at La Cabaña Fortress Complex in Havana in the presence of relatives of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez – internationally known as the Cuban Five.

The new books are “The United States vs Five Heroes” by Dr. Rodolfo Davalos and “Les debo verlos libres” (I Owe Them Seeing Them Free) by Celia Maria Hart Santamaria.

Davalos’ text is a compilation of 80 articles published by Juventud Rebelde newspaper, already included in a previous edition and now published by the Capitan San Luis publishing house.

Meanwhile, “Les debo verlos libres” by Celia Hart, who died recently in a car accident, includes letters and articles, and it belongs to Special Editions by the Jose Marti Cultural Society.

Alarcon described Davalos’ work as a fighting tool and, in reference to Celia’s book, he said that “thousands of books like this one can be published because thousands of people around the world correspond with our five comrades.”

“This is a decisive year to achieve the release of our brothers. The only way to put an end to this injustice is through political struggle, public denunciation and international mobilization.”

The Cuban Five were arrested and given harsh and unjust sentences in a biased trial after they were arrested for monitoring extremist groups in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against Cuba.

“Let us not forget that if they are in jail, it is because of us. They lost their freedom fighting terrorism and the least our people can do is to return a little bit of this love,” Alarcon stressed.
