Raul Castro Meets with Daughter of Former Egyptian President
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 1 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro met on Sunday with Mona Gamal Abdel Nasser, daughter of former Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, who was the second President of Egypt since 1954 until his death in 1970.

According to Granma newspaper, during the dialogue, they recalled Nasser’s solidarity with the Cuban Revolution; his meetings with Fidel Castro, Raul and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara; as well as his decisive contribution to the strengthening of the bonds of friendship between Cuba and the African country.


The visitor gave Raul details about her visit to the Caribbean nation and they also spoke about the history of the Cuban Revolution and Cuba’s solidarity with other countries around the world.

 

Mona Gamal Abdel Nasser thanked Raul Castro for the possibility to learn first hand about the Cuban reality and she said she was very impressed by the places and people she met.


She also recalled the tribute paid by the Cuban President to his father at his grave
during Raul’s trip to Egypt last July, on the occasion of the 15th Summit of the Non Aligned Movement.


Present in the meeting were Havana Historian Eusebio Leal Spengler and Laila Abdel Hamid Gamal Abdel Nasser, grand-daughter of the Egyptian leader.
