The
gratitude of the Cuban people was expressed by ambassador to
Argentina Aramis Fuente Hernandez in a meeting in the headquarters
of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Buenos Aires, Prensa Latina
reported.
Fuente described as “an extraordinary deed” the gesture of radio and
TV host Santiago Vega and social activist Alcides Bonavitta, who,
with the support in the rearguard of Aldo Bonavitta, climed one the
world's seven highest elevations to express their rejection to the
injustice committed by the US against Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon
Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez,
known as the Cuban Five.
“You took not only a flag up to the Roof of America, but also a
conviction and an ideal,” the Cuban ambassador said. He went on to
speak about the aggressions and terrorist acts conducted from the
United States against Cuba and which the Cuban Five were trying to
stop.
Fuente added that the Argentineans are well aware of the fight of
the Cuban people against such criminal actions because they were
through a similar situation during the dictatorship and the CIA plan
of a series coup d’etats perpetrated across Latin America, known as
the Condor Operation.
Several personalities attended the meeting in the Cuban embassy
including political
scientist and writer Atilio Boron, jurist Carlos Zamorano and the
general coordinator of the Free the Five International Committee,
Graciela Ramirez.
Recently, the young mountain climbers received a message from the
Cuban Five who thanked them for their gesture.
