HOLGUIN, Cuba, Nov 19 (acn) The 5th International Colloquium in favor of the five Cuban

Amaury Torno, delegate of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) in this territory,
announced that the list of participants includes political activists, lawyers, writers,
journalists, parliamentarians and religious leaders interested in spreading the truth about the case of Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez – internationally known as the Cuban Five.

Torno added that relatives of the Cuban Five will also attend the event that runs through next Monday.

The program of the meeting includes an interactive internet forum to discuss the current situation of the Five with a panel of experts answering questions from internet surfers.

The Cuban Five were arrested in Miami in 1998 and they were given harsh and unjust sentences after a biased trial for monitoring anti-Cuba extremist groups that were planning and carrying out terrorist attacks from South Florida against the Caribbean nation.

Martin Duerk, a retired German teacher, told ACN that this is his first participation in this kind of event. “Although I know the case of the Five and their unjust sentences, I was never able to attend the colloquium in previous years but I’m here to give my support and I will do it next year too,” he said.
