Havana’s Casa de las
Americas Pays Tribute to Mario Benedetti
HAVANA,
Cuba, Nov 2 (acn) Literary studies and different texts make up the
tribute to
Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti included in the most recent issue
of the magazine published
by Havana’s Casa de las Américas cultural institution.
|
The publication’s 256th issue will be launched at
the institution’s Manuel Galich Hall at 3:00 p.m. Friday.
Included in this number are texts by Eduardo Galeano, Margaret
Randall, and Carmen Alemany Bay, as well as testimonies of some
people who had the opportunity of sharing different facets and
moments of the creative life of the author of Gracias por el
Fuego (Thank you for the Fire).
The magazine also presents a study by Pablo Rocca entitled
“Apuntes sobre el escritor popular” (Notes on the popular
writer), and the article “Mario Benedetti: Un mito discretísimo”
(Mario Benedetti: a very discrete myth), by Hortensia Campanella,
the two of them dedicated to the Uruguayan poet and narrator,
the Casa de las Américas web site reports.
The present edition is illustrated with works that won prizes
and mentions in the recently concluded La Joven Estampa Prize.
Mario Benedetti is very much linked to Casa’s history, of which
he was a tireless
collaborator and the founder of its Literary Research Center in
1967. He was also part of the organizing committee of the Casa
de las Américas literary prize.
