US Trade Unionists
Support Release of Cuban Antiterrorist Fighters
HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 29 (acn)
The San Francisco Labor Council (SFLC) asked US President Barack
Obama to release the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters who remain
unjustly imprisoned in the United States.
|
In a resolution of the SFLC, the trade union
demanded that American State Secretary Hillary Clinton analyzes
the US’s violations of international conventions in the case of
Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon
Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez – internationally known as the
Cuban Five. The text also demands that
Washington immediately grants visas to Olga Salanueva and
Adriana Perez, respective wives of Rene and Gerardo, to visit
their husbands in prison.
The Cuban Five were arrested in 1998 for
monitoring right-wing groups in South Florida that were planning
and carrying out terrorist actions against Cuba.
The San Francisco Labor Council is the local
body of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of
Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the largest federation of
unions in the United States and Canada. The SFLC represents more
than 100,000 union members and their families who belong to over
150 affiliate unions.
