Minh Triet was welcomed at the Jose Marti International Airport
by the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo
Malmierca Diaz.
During his stay in the Caribbean archipelago, the leader of the
Asian sister nation will hold official talks with Raul and he
will be decorated with the ‘Jose Marti’ Order, the highest
distinction granted by the Cuban Council of State.
The Vietnamese head of state will also participate in a
Cuba-Viet Nam Forum of Business Opportunities and in the signing
of several bilateral cooperation agreements.
Minh Triet’s agenda includes a meeting with the President of the
Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), Ricardo Alarcon. He will
also pay tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti and to Ho Chi
Minh, the father of Viet Nam’s independence.
The Vietnamese leader has visited Cuba on two occasions. In 2003
he visited the country as Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist
Party in the city of Ho Chi Minh and then, in 2006, he arrived
in Havana as President of Viet Nam heading his country’s
delegation to the 14th Summit of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM).
Cuba and Viet Nam established diplomatic relations on December
2nd, 1960.
