Zelaya Reiterates
Call to Condemn de Facto Regime in Honduras
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 3 (acn)
Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya reiterated on Tuesday in
Mexico his call to the international community to strengthen
condemnation to de facto regime in his country, in order to achieve
the reinstatement of constitutional order.

During the official welcoming ceremony, Zelaya -now in Mexico
following an invitation made by his counterpart, Felipe Calderón-
emphasized that reverting the situation of the coup d´état is a
challenge for the international community.
For the head of state, if this act remains unpunished, it would
represent the opening of possibilities for similar events to take
place in other parts of the world –that is, the ruling of other
nations’ fate by force, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
There is still a lot to do on the part of the international
community to obtain the respect of the universal human rights
acknowledged by the United Nations and the Organization of American
States (OAS), as proved by the recent events in Honduras, said
Zelaya.
He also highlighted the courage of the Honduran people, now facing a
dictatorial and repressive regime, installed after the June 28th
coup.
He added that popular demonstrations have taken place in Honduras
over the last 34 days, with over 200 road blockings and the taking
of public places and the participation of teachers, labor unions,
farmers, indigenous people and honest entrepreneurs.
