The historic community, located
nearly 800 kilometers from the capital Havana is well known
internationally for its history and its beauty, marked by a
refined wood architecture prevailing in the place, which expands
along 26 hectares of land.
Biran was declared National
Monument in 2009 due to its historic and natural values and it
is carefully preserved in its original morphology. The community
treasures facilities and some 1,175 objects considered of
exceptional value according to the resolution issued by the
National Heritage Council when the town received its patrimonial
distinction.
The homes and other facilities in
the community, hometown of Revolution leader Fidel Castro and
President Raul Castro, were built between 1914 and 1917. In this
Cuban settlement, the Castro family inherited the liberty flame
that two of its children took to the Sierra Maestra Mountain
Range and earlier to the assault on the Moncada barracks in
Santiago de Cuba.
In the context of celebrations for
the actions of July 26, 1953, Biran once again reveals itself in
the eyes of Cubans with passages of history and its ever-lasting
links to some of those who wrote crucial chapters in the history
of Cuba.
