According to Cuban diplomatic sources in Berlin, the president of DKP, Bettina Jürgensen; the president of a solidarity network with Cuba (Netzwerk), Harri Gruenberg; and the president of the Germany-Cuba Friendship Association, among others, offered updated information on the case of these men.

The participants in the event recalled that Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez and Fernando Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, were unjustly imprisoned since 1998 for trying to prevent terrorist actions against Cuba by right wing groups based in Florida.

The festival was also attended by representatives of different left
political forces in Europe and other regions, as well as the Cuban
ambassador Raul Becerra, and a representative of the department of
International Relations of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist
Party (PCC), Noel Carrillo, as guest of honor of the DKP.

Carrillo took part in a discussion panel in the stand “La Casa Cuba” (the Cuban House), by the side of the president of the International Commission of DKP, Heinz Stehr, and Tobias Kriele of the AG Kuba-Solidarität of DKP, in which he gave an overview on the current Cuban situation and on the results of the Sixth Congress of the PCC.

Stehr highilighted the historic significance of the Cuban Revolution and
ratified the solidarity of DKP with the Cuban people and its revolutionary
process.

According to the website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry (www.cubaminrex.cu), this Festival illustrates the constant work of DKP and other organizations of solidarity with Cuba.
